Ants, ants, ants!

Uncle Brinkley meeting the babies for the 1st time

We've had a cold snap and it's driven ants into the house. I was lying on the floor playing with Gael and noticed one (I had seen one last night and had my husband spray around the outside of the foundation. Didn't want any spray near the babies). Well, I picked up the ant and killed it and then noticed another, and another, and another... What a mess. They were in the bowl of dry food I had been keeping in case Gidget wanted something to eat in between meals (I didn't think she would eat it as I am still having to hand feed her (Innova dry and canned plus cottage cheese, boiled chicken and a scrambled egg).

So, I have set up the small ex pen in front of the fireplace (fits well there actually) and have taken everything out of the larger ex pens. Everything is in the wash. I've scrubbed the floor and sprinkled baby powder. Will clean that up before I put them back but may not do that until tonight. The good news is that I haven't put sheets around the smaller ex pen. Gidget's a bit restless about Brinkley seeing the puppies but he is being very nice and a few of them have shown some interest in him. If she can allow this, it will make life much easier for me and I think will be good for the puppies. So far, she is just restless - in and out of the pen and wandering around the family room. Almost seems confused. They are pretty laid back and so far seem unbothered by the move. They are sleeping quietly.

Gidget jumped into the chair I have all the clean linens piled on. She rooted around in them until she knocked them off and then crawled into the middle of them and scattered them all over the room. She loves to get under covers. I notice that some of the puppies do the same thing. (notice the pee spot. And Gidget had just finished cleaning them. See the rest of my post)

The other thing having them in the family room will do is allow me is to watch them closer without having to sit it in the ex pen. They are peeing on their own much more now and she isn't cleaning it all up so they are ending up sleeping in pee (so far, no poop). I've been trying to catch them and put them on paper but so far have only caught one a single time. They aren't very steady on their feet yet and are still pretty much just eating and sleeping. As they get more mobile, I am sure I will have more luck catching them and moving them to the paper but in the meantime, I don't want them lying in pee. This morning and yesterday morning, their bedding was pretty wet.
